My Story

Mary Slack
Long Arm Quilter

Hello Fellow Quilters!!!
My name is Mary Slack and I have been sewing and quilting for over 40 years! I made my first quilt in 1976 for the Bicentennial, I was a baby. My Mom helped me and I still have it today. Is it perfect? NO! Is it filled with love and good memories? Absolutely!!
I learned to sew from my mom. She was a true seamstress. She made the most beautiful clothes for my family as well as my barbies. I still have her Singer Sewing machine and can picture her sewing every time I look at it. Again lots of love and wonderful memories.
Fast forward to 2020. A crossroad for many people. Our town had lived through two major fire storms in the past three years and now the pandemic. I was laid off from my full time job as a Chef and Restaurant Manager. Our home kitchen was torn up due to a dishwasher flood and the insurance company was not being helpful at all. I turned to my sewing machine and sewed more than ever and I quilted—ALL THE TIME! I made quilts for everyone, with love and good memories. The small ones I quilted on my domestic machine. The larger ones I sent out to be longarm quilted. One day I called my longarm quilter and she told me she had moved out of the area, a long way out of our area. At that moment I thought, “What if I could do the longarm quilting myself?!
I poured a glass of wine and went to find my husband who was in the garage. “Honey,” I said,
“I have a CRAZY idea!” My dear husband encouraged me and was excited for me to start my own business. I went to classes, I researched and kept sewing. Sew Krazee was born!
My beautiful Handi Quilter Forte arrived and I have quilted every day since. I always have a quilt on my frame and love every stitch.
I have quilted hundreds of quilts for myself and other people and I would be honored to quilt yours. I treat every quilt as if it were my very own filled with love and good memories. Give me a call today, coffee is on.
Lots of Love,
Mary
Preparing Your Quilt
Congratulations on completing your quilt top! Now let me elevate your project with the precision and accuracy of computerized quilting that will add beauty as well as durability for your quilt to last for years to come.
Before for quilt arrives at Sew Krazee:
Your Quilt Top
Please iron your seams before you drop off or send me your quilt. Mark the top of your quilt with a small note even if it is obvious.
Your Backing
Please have it at least 4 inches larger than your quilt top on all sides. I recommend pre-shrinking your backing if you are using minky or flannel. Please iron if needed. If you had to put a seam in your backing let me know if you like the seam horizantal or vertical-if you don’t let me know I will use my own judgement to see what works best for your quilt. If you would like me to sew a seam in your backing I charge $10
Batting
Please have the batting at least 4” larger than the quilt top on all sides. If you would like me to supply the batting I will charge to your final bill. I use either 80/20 or 100% cotton.
I will return any extra backing and batting to you when your quilt is returned to you.
Thread Color
I have many thread colors. If you do not pick out your thread in person at my studio please let me know if you would like the thread to blend with your fabric or be a contrasting color. I will pick the thread for you if you do not specify. I use the same color for the top and the bottom of the quilt.
